Colaiste na Coiribe, Tuam Road, and will compete with 12 other schools to become the overall winner of the 2008/2009 AIB ‘Build A Bank Challange’ at the national final which will take place in Croke Park, Dublin, on May 7.
A total of 19 schools from Galway, Limerick, and Clare took part in the regional final which was held in the Radisson SAS Galway on March 3 last with Colaiste na Coiribe emerging as the overall winner.
In total, four regional awards were handed out on the day: 1 ) Colaiste na Coiribe, Tuam Road, Co Galway - Overall Regional Final Winner; 2 ) Villiers School, North Circular Road, Co Limerick - ‘Best School Bank Exhibition’ award; 3 ) St Rapahels, Loughrea, Co Galway - ‘Best Teamwork’ award; and 4 ) John the Baptist Community School, Hospital, Co Limerick - ‘Best Customer Loyalty’ award.
For the regional final each school presented an exhibition of its bank to the judges. Students used a mixture of photographs, drawings, charts, and DVD presentations to represent their work. The judges asked the students from each participating school about the operation of their bank, how they encouraged regular savings, and what customer loyalty programmes they ran. Many schools ran local competitions and raised funds for local charities to promote their bank.
Regional director of AIB Galway, Pat Heelan, said: “We would like to congratulate all the schools who participated in the AIB Build a Bank Challenge regional final, the judges were very impressed with the overall quality. We would also like to extend our congratulations to Colaiste na Coiribe for their great success in qualifying for the AIB Build a Bank Challenge national final, their effort and creativity really won the judges over.”
