Mayor says Galway City is the winner as he launches awards

“There is a saying, I always wondered why someone didn’t do something about that, then I realised I am somebody,” — so said Mayor Mike Cubbard this week when he launched the 17th annual Mayor’s Awards.

He called on people in Galway to nominate unpaid volunteers for their work in the community in the city and highlighted the outstanding work volunteers do throughout the city.

He said that this is an opportunity to highlight this work and that volunteering is what the Mayors Awards is all about.

“Having been involved in many community organisations and clubs throughout the city, I have seen at first-hand the invaluable contribution volunteers make to society.

“These awards give us an opportunity to recognise all those who volunteer and step up in our community. Galway City is the winner as we are lucky to have such a strong cohort of volunteers within the city,” said Mayor Cubbard.

The Mayor’s Awards will again acknowledge outstanding people and organisations who, through their commitment to participating in unpaid community and voluntary activities, have had a significant impact on the quality of life of their communities in Galway City.

Nominations are invited from people in Galway City for individuals or organisations for the Mayor’s Awards. There are nine individual Mayor’s Awards:
