Rehab to hold suicide prevention fundraiser

A Rehab fundraising event will take place next week to raise funds for suicide prevention awareness.

Rehab is currently undertaking a major fundraising drive for its innovative Heads Up mental health promotion programme. As part of this effort, Rehab volunteer Helen Donohue, staff nurse on St Anthony’s Ward, UCHG, in conjunction with the Harbour Hotel, is holding a fundraising event in the Harbour Hotel in aid of suicide prevention on Friday May 1. The event will begin at 9pm and includes dancing, finger food, and raffles. It will be held in the Harbour’s John B Keane suite with private bar. Tickets for this worthy cause are only €10 and Rehab is appealing for public support.

Each year up to 500 people die as a result Of suicide in Ireland, with a significant proportion of those in the 15 to 24 years of age category, many of them young men.

Specifically aimed at young people between 15 and 24 years of age, the Heads Up programme aims to promote positive mental health and provides information and support to those in need. Heads Up initiatives include ASSIST, a suicide awareness and intervention training programme, a life skills and life coaching course, and a parenting course for fathers.
