City Hall chasing one million in development levies

The Galway City Council is chasing €1.2 million worth of development levies it is owed. Five cases are also due to come before the District Court over the recovery of monies.

At Monday’s city council meeting, councillors were presented with a report detailing the development contribution levies City Hall is still owed by numerous developers.

The report gave details regarding the legal proceedings being taken to recover €1.2 million worth of development levies due as of December 31 2007.

The report read that €393,275 is due from Harmack Development Ltd for a housing development in Doughiska. It is subject to a District Court order for payment.

The company also owes €177,500 (balance outstanding €163,500 ) for a housing development at the same address which is being paid in agreed phased stages.

Further phased payment arrangements relate to Pat Lohan at Upper Salthill for €29,181 (balance outstanding €19,181 ); Kieran Burke, Doughiska for €273,000 (balance outstanding €183,000 ); and O’Brien O’Malley, Cappagh Road for €36,450.

The total monies locked into phased payment agreements in this regard amounts to €516,131.

In regard to forthcoming legal proceedings, five separate cases are due to come before the District Court. The five cases together total €98,125.
