Maria Kesselman to sing at the Viennese Strauss Gala

Phantom Of The Opera star to play the Town Hall Theatre

MARIA KESSELMAN, who starred opposite Michael Crawford in the celebrated Phantom of the Opera performances of the late 1980s, is coming to Galway to take part in the Viennese Strauss Gala.

The Viennese Strauss Gala, featuring music from Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron; Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow; as well as work by Emmerich Kálmán; is directed by Stephen Leatherland, will be in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday February 4 at 8pm.

Music will be performed by The European Orchestral Ensemble. There will be choreography and it will be costumed. A highlight will be Maria Kesselman, who The Guardian described as having "a truly golden voice with warmth radiating from every note".

Kesselman's career spans musical theatre, opera, concert, recording, cabaret, and dance. As well as The Phantom of the Opera, she has also performed as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady; Maria in The Sound of Music; and she received a Time Out award for her performance as Melinda Coverdale in A Judgement in Stone.

She has also performed at The Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, and The Royal Albert Hall, and performed with The Royal Philharmonic, The English National Orchestra and The BBC Concert Orchestra, and has given recitals for The English National Opera at The London Coliseum. As a dancer, she played the role of The Russian Girl in Death in Venice at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and in The Nutcracker at The Royal Festival Hall with The Festival Ballet.
