DEMAIN, THE French documentary, where two film-makers travelled the world to investigate concrete solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss, will be screened at the Pálás Cinema next week.
A presentation by the Pálás, Galway 2020, and the French Embassy, Demain (Tomorrow ), winner of the Best Documentary at the Cesar Awards, is produced and co-directed by activist and writer Cyril Dion and actor/filmmaker Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds ). It explores creative solutions in the fields of food, energy, education, economics, and transports, and has inspired the creation of many new community actions.
It will be screened on Thursday January 30 at 6.30pm, and is part of the annual Night Of Ideas, a worldwide initiative spearheaded by Institut Français that celebrates the constant stream of ideas among countries, cultures, topics and generations.
Talking about the environment and climate change
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on the theme 'Being alive', which the French Ambassador Stéphane Crouzat said, will "look into the ecological balance and humanity’s relationship with the planet". The speakers will be environmentalist blogger Keelin Moncrieff; Brendan Smith, EPE engagement officer, Insight Centre for Data Analytics, NUI Galway; Green Party Galway City West councillor Pauline O’Reilly; and Shane Mooney, engineer, environmental consultant. This event will be followed by an organic wine reception.
