Could Galway win the Choice Music Prize?

Two albums on the Strange Brew label, and Galway born Maija Sofia are up for prestigious award

TWO GALWAY artists, and two albums on an independent Galway record label, are among the 10 shortlisted for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year award.

L.O.S.S., the magnificent second album from Clare born, Galway based, electronica producer, composer, and violinist Daithí; and Pull The Right Rope, the debut album by County Kerry folk singer-songwriter, Junior Brother; have been nominated. Both albums were released on the Strange Brew label, founded and run by Galway music promoter and Róisín Dubh co-owner Gugai.

The third Galway related nominee is Maija Sofia, who has been described as "lo-fi singer-songwriter folk" by Nialler9 and "subtle indie-folk" by The Last Mixed Tape. She has been nominated for her album Bath Time, released via Trapped Animal Records.

The RTÉ Choice Music Prize, in association with IMRO and IRMA, will be announced at an event in Vicar Street, Dublin, on Thursday March 5. It will also be broadcast live on RTÉ 2FM from 7pm to 11pm, with a special RTÉ Choice Music Prize highlights programme going out on RTÉ2 television the following week.
