Gotta blame it on the juice

Here we are in the second week of 2020 already, and how many of us are still keeping up with our New Year resolutions? Some healthy eating is a common one to make, especially if you made a little too 'merry' over the festive season. But trying to get all of your five-a-day into you can be more difficult than it sounds. Time is short, temptation surrounds us, and cravings are hard to ignore.

If you have reason to be wandering around the east side of Galway city there is an easy solution. Delight on Renmore Avenue, the popular neighbourhood cafe, has a January juice menu to help keep us on the straight and narrow. The menu, which is all plant based (so hot right now ), has all the fresh fruit and veg you will need to detox, retox, or just give you a healthy start to the New Year.

Fresh juices are the ideal way of packing in even more than that five-a-day and all those essential minerals and vitamins in a really tasty way. This juice range includes the 'Refresher' with apple, pear, lemon, and pineapple, or the 'Green Delight' made with spinach, cucumber, apple, and avocado. Other colourful creations include the 'Detoxifier' with carrot, ginger, and apple, or the 'Power Clean' which has pink grapefruit, orange, and lime juice. There is, of course, freshly pressed orange juice available for the purists.

Oats, blueberries, banana, frozen yogurt, honey, and low fat milk combine to make the 'Rise and Shine', ideal for a portable breakfast. The 'Delight Protein Shake' brings peanut butter, banana, low fat milk, frozen yogurt, and a scoop of protein together for a treat halfway between a drink and a dessert. In fact if you fear the hunger pangs or want to feel fuller for longer, you can add a scoop of protein powder to any of the juices or smoothies. They all come in a corn starch biodegradable take away cup and with an eco-friendly straw, so you can appease your inner Greta Thunberg. After all, no one is too small to make a difference.

An all day breakfast is being served during January too, with real sourdough breads from everyone's favorite artisan bakery, Marmalade on Middle Street. The toast can be smothered in butter and jam or with Galway made Totally Nutz peanut butter. Top them with smashed avocado, poached Galway free range eggs, and sides of bacon, grilled halloumi, or chorizo. Too much choice? Then what about a stack of American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup or berries and natural yogurt, maybe?

The food at Delight is fresh and tasty, offering a wide range of options for breakfast, lunch, and dessert. It has recently had an entire refurbishment and refit with seating for 35 inside and a further 20 outside on the new decking. The café works with local producers and suppliers, and the excellent coffee comes from Bell Lane coffee roasters in Mullingar. Delight has a lot going for it — a convenient location with lots of free parking, friendly atmosphere, great menu, and value for money. At Delight you are guaranteed delicious food and a warm welcome, it is always just delightful to visit here.
