Cédric Tiberghien and Alina Ibragimova - in Galway this weekend

Acclaimed duo to play Beethoven violin sonatas at the Town Hall Theatre

DESCRIBED BY the great Irish classical pianist Finghin Collins as "one of the great duos of our time", French pianist Cédric Tiberghien and Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova play Galway this weekend.

The acclaimed duo will be the highlight of Music for Galway's midwinter festival, which this year concentrates on the music of Beethoven. They play the Town Hall Theatre this Sunday at 3pm, performing the Violin Sonatas No 2 Op 12, No 3 Op 12, and No 9 Op 47, the latter better known as the 'Kreutzer' Sonata.

Tiberghien and Ibragimova first met as members of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme, and have since performed together throughout Europe, North America,and Asia, appearing at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall in New York, and in San Francisco. They won particular acclaim for their performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven violin sonatas at the Wigmore Hall in London.
