Oranmore/Maree GAA has confirmed plans for its new Rinville Sportsground development following the announcement of €2.1 million in government funding under the Large-Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The funding had been sought by local Fine Gael TD Hildegarde Naughton, who had previously secured €66,000 for the facility. She welcomed the latest investment, and said she was delighted for the local community.
“This project will provide world-class facilities for the area, including a full-size, all-weather 4G astro-turf pitch, a number of sand-based pitches, and a low-level illuminated walking/jogging track,” explained Deputy Naughton.
“Juvenile playing pitches and state-of-the-art changing facilities will also be included in what is a game-changing plan for the area, and one that I wholeheartedly support.
“The 24-acre site will also serve the needs of Oranmore Camogie Club and Naomh Mhuire Ladies Football Club,” Deputy Naughton noted.
“The population in the parish of Oranmore-Maree is growing substantially, and what was once a small village has grown to over 8,000 inhabitants over a short period of time.
“Oranmore has been identified as a key area within the Core Strategy of the current Galway County Development Plan (2015-2021 ), which means the population will continue to grow into the future,” according to the Oranmore native.
“I am very pleased with today’s announcement and the support provided to me by my ministerial colleagues in ensuring that Oranmore/Maree were the recipients of major sports funding. I was glad to have been able to assist them and look forward to working with them in future to ensure our community has the best facilities available.”
