Five Galway enterprises to benefit from Regional Enterprise Development Fund allocations

Galway has been allocated €9.7 million under the Government’s Regional Enterprise Development Fund, with the Galway Technology Centre, the PorterShed, Comhoibriú/Creative Enterprise West, SCCUL Enterprises, and Grow Remote set to benefit.

The allocation of €4 million to the Galway Technology Centre in Mervue - home to 46 companies employing more than 320 people - will support the ‘Academy West’ project to help tech companies expand and up-scale.

The €1.295 to the PorterShed will support its relocation to larger premises at Bowling Green from where it will continue to support start-ups. To date it has supported the creation of 720 jobs in Galway.

A total of €1.23 million has been allocated to Ballybane-based SCCUL Enterprises which will enable the organisation to support social enterprises alongside traditional ones in a plan that is expected to deliver more than 90 jobs.

The €2.69 million investment in Comhoibriú/Creative Enterprise West is to develop a centre of excellence for the digital creative sector. Led by Galway Film Centre, GMIT, and the Western Development Commission, Comhoibriú will support enterprises in areas such as film and TV production, animation, gaming, and augmented reality from its base at Cluain Mhuire, Wellpark.

The €449,442 allocated to Galway-based Grow Remote is to help provide the resources for more people to work remotely. Backers of this project include the local authorities, the WDC, Enterprise Ireland, and the IDA.

The allocations have been welcomed by Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Seán Kyne. “Almost one quarter of the total funding from the Regional Enterprise Development Fund is coming to Galway” he said, “and will support organisations and initiatives that are nurturing enterprise and job creation and attracting substantial investment to the benefit of communities across Galway and the west.”
