The Annual New Inn Mummers Festival has been confirmed for Saturday night January 11, commencing at 7 pm in the New Inn Leisure Centre.
This festival of music, song, dance and storytelling has been running now for 42 years, and continues to attract patrons and groups from all over the west and midlands.
The Mummers Festival is run under the auspices of the Community Council, and was started over four decades ago as a fundraiser towards the building of the Community Centre. Today the proceeds of the festival help maintain and develop the Centre, as well as contributing some funds to local charities.
The organisers report good interest to date from groups wishing to compete in Festival 2020, and the Festival Secretary Michael Finnerty is urging all interested participants to confirm their entries during the coming week. He can be contacted at New Inn, Ballinasloe. Telephone 087 3828281.
The Mummers Festival is a great community event, and is all about participation, but the friendly rivalry for the Peter J Donohue Perpetual Trophy, and the many other prizes on offer, thanks to generous sponsors, adds greatly to the atmosphere and enjoyment .
