DESPITE CRITICAL acclaim, European tours, and live shows that had the The Guardian declaring, "Otherkin play the tent as if it is Madison Square Garden," the Dublin garage-rockers are calling it a day.
The band - Luke Reilly (lead vocals, guitar ), Conor Wynne (lead guitar ), David Anthony (bass ), Rob Summons (drums ) - are currently on their farewell tour which they bring to the Róisín Dubh on Saturday December 21 at 8pm
In a statement issued earlier this year, the band said: "This band is a huge part of our lives and while breaking up is not an easy thing to do, it’s what feels right for us...The unfortunate reality is that life in a band these days is one of extreme highs and extreme lows; there’s the elation after an amazing gig to the pressure of mounting bills, the pride of releasing music that you’ve laboured over for months to the deflation of struggling ticket sales.
"It’s all in there and a band needs a lot of fuel in its tank to get through it. Some bands have more fuel than others and unfortunately, the day arrived where our fuel ran out...It’s been a hell of a ride. ‘Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.’"
This will be the last chance to catch that "blazing energy, Morse code guitars, and caveman drums" (Clash ) and "a big mass of energy - four guys who write hugely infectious tracks with rough, snarling, vocals and grunge riffs" (The Independent ).
Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and the Róisín Dubh.
