Hear the harmony driven sound of The Raines

A Galway folk 'supergroup' of Yvonne Tiernan, Ruth Dillon, and Juliana Erkkonen

THEY ARE long standing members of Galway's folk music scene, but it is only recently, after a get together on Inis Óirr, that Yvonne Tiernan, Ruth Dillon, and Juliana Erkkonen have joined forces as The Raines.

The Raines bring their melodic and vocal harmony driven sound to the Black Gate Cultural Centre, St Francis Street, tomorrow [Friday December 6] at 8pm. Barry Egan of the Sunday Independent said, “The Raines put me in mind of something from Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue from 1975 - particularly with the parts with Scarlet Rivera on violin opposite Bob - meets an edgy Emmylou Harris."

Yvonne (vocals/banjolele ) sings and tours with The Chieftains and is also a member of The Grey Willows. Ruth (vocals, guitar, ukulele ) toured and recorded with Dolores Keane, was a member of The Molly Hicks, and released three solo albums. Juliana (fiddle, vocals ) has played with The Rocky River Bluegrass Show, The Grey Willows, and The Invisible Jug band.

Admission is €10.
