Fr Peter McVerry, the social activist and one of the leading campaigners against homelessness in Ireland, will give a public talk in Coláiste Iognáid (The Jes ), Sea Road, on Wednesday November 27 at 7pm.
Fr McVerry’s talk will be entitled ‘Finding Jesus on the margins’, and he will speak from his experience of working and living with homeless people.
Fr McVerry believes “in a community that loves one another, there should be no-one poor, (unless all are poor ); there should be no-one homeless, no-one lonely, no-one sick or alone without visitors, no-one in prison who has been abandoned and written off, there should be no-one rejected or marginalised.”
In his book, Jesus: Social Revolutionary?, he challenged Christian churches to re-examine their priorities, saying that social justice should be at the heart of all that the Christian churches preach and do.
