The Romanian community in Galway and surroundings areas are expected to go to the polls this weekend in the city’s Ardilaun Hotel to cast their votes to elect the next president of Romania.
The ballot for the second round of the presidential election will take place for the Romanian diaspora, around the world, for three consecutive days starting at 12:00, midday Friday, 22nd November 2019 till 21:00.
On Saturday November 23 and Sunday November 24 polling station opens at 7:00AM and closes at 9:00PM. On each day the opening hours for voting can be extended untill midnight if needed, in order to enable everyone present to cast their vote.
The same schedule applied for the first round earlier this month. On these elections throughout the world, more polling stations than ever have been opened for the Romanian diaspora in the past, and the length of time was extended from one day to three consecutive days for the first time. Romanians living in Romania vote on only one day, Sunday November 24 for the second tour. For the first time in Ireland, Romanian Embassy in Dublin, managed by Her Excellency, Manuela Breazu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ireland, with the support of the Romanian community across Ireland organised 16 polling stations, of which 10 are located in Dublin, to RDS (Royal Dublin Society ) and six polling stations outside Dublin, one in each of the following cities: Cork, Drogheda, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford.
