Councillor says shelters are vote to encourage greater use of public transport

Galway is set to get 13 new bus shelters in the New Year, with three being located in the Castle Park area, a move which has been welcomed by Social Democrats Galway City East councillor, Owen Hanley.

Alongside the three for Castlepark, the other areas to get a new bus shelter will be Rahyin Glebe; Clareview Park; Cnoc Na Cille; Crestwood, Menlo; Shangort Road; Ballymoneen Road; Barna Road, close to the R336 Junction; Westside Sports Complex, Bóthar le Cheile; Cherry Park, Thomas Hynes Road; Corrib Village, Newcastle Road; and Costello Road.

Cllr Hanley said that "such infrastructure" was important if people were going to be encouraged to used public transport on a more regular basis. He also confirmed that City Hall's transportation department intends to seek funding for bus shelters on an annual basis with the intention of providing further bus shelters throughout Galway.
