Wallis Bird - solo at the Black Box this weekend

Singer-songwriter to deliver new anthems and songs, and 'reminisce over the golden-oldies' at Galway concert

“AS MUCH as I adore playing with a band, I've decided to finally plant a flag in the ground, go completely solo and highlight what I'm best at. I'm in my element when I can fill the stage and bring the audience together."

So said Wexford singer-songwriter Wallis Bird about her upcoming nationwide tour, which will see her play the Black Box Theatre this Saturday at 7.30pm. "I love it and I love working hard at it!" she said. "I can’t wait to share new anthems and songs, and of course reminisce over the golden-oldies. I cannot wait!”

The Galway concert is part of Wallis's New Moon Tour, so entitled because of its symbolism. "Transition, femininity, the passing of time and new beginnings," she explained, "the dark side of light. All of this amounts to how I feel at this point in my life. This is my new moon."

In September, Wallis released her sixth studio album, Woman, which marks something of a change in her sound and style. “It’s built on a quite different tonal and chordal structure than usual," she said. "I’ve tried to flood it with love, questions, and understanding. I’m trying to make sense of the socio-political new world we’re living in, and finding a way to heal myself."

Wallis is no stranger to critical acclaim “The sheer visceral energy of Wallis Bird could kick-start an entire economy," said The Irish Times. The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia, declared, “The intensity of Wallis Bird’s live sound will pin you to the wall.”

This is a 'Róisín Dubh presents...' event. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and the Róisín Dubh.
