Funding of €532,500 for the Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge curriculum, has been approved by the Minister for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Sean Kyne.
The allocation will support the TEG curriculum and exams over the next three academic years, and includes €405,000 to support arts events across Gaeltacht schools in County Galway.
Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge is an Irish language curriculum and evaluation process for learners. The TEG curriculum and exams are available across the State, including in NUI Galway, and in centres abroad. It is availed of by learners at different levels, from beginners to advanced and applicants include students, such as student teachers, staff in the public sector, and adult learners. A total of 1,790 students took TEG exams this year.
“TEG provides not only a formal exam process but also a structure for learners and is helping us to achieve our goal of increasing the number of Irish language speakers both at home and abroad,” said Minister Kyne. “ I’m delighted to hear that the number of students undertaking the TEG exams has doubled this year.”
