The 22nd Galway Science and Technology Festival, Ireland’s premier event for the promotion of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths ) begins today. The central theme for 2019 is Climate Action and this year’s Festival promises to instill a love of science and a curiosity about the world around us.
There is a programme of events for everyone, promises Anne Murray, Festival Manager.
“This year the Festival is focusing on the much-needed area of climate action. We are helping to increase an awareness and to educate students, teachers and the public on the changes that need to take place now in order to protect our environment into the future” she added.
“We are honoured to welcome Andri Snær Magnason to Galway and we look forward to hearing about Andri’s experience of the glacier crisis in Iceland.”
The Festival runs for two weeks through to November 24. Over 130 primary schools and 40 secondary schools will host over 200 science shows and workshops and other wonderful events have been arranged by NUI Galway, GMIT, Galway Atlantaquaria, Brigit’s Garden’s, Galway City Museum and An Pálás cinema, including ‘Superhero Tuesday’ a public event on Tuesday 19 to explain the science of superpowers and see a screening of The Avengers!
The annual Exhibition is always outstanding, it will take place on Sunday November 24 and 70% of tickets for that day’ shows and workshops will be released on Saturday November 16 at 11am on Eventbrite. Tickets for other special events are now available at GalwayScience.ie
