One in ten plan electric car switch

Almost one in 10 Irish motorists intend on making the change to an electric vehicle when they next purchase a car, a recent survey has found.

In response to an AA Car Insurance survey, which it says was sent to some 7,000 Irish motorists, 9.21 per cent stated they were "very likely" to switch to an electric vehicle when next changing their car. Meanwhile, a further 23.26 per cent of respondents stated they were somewhat likely to avoid purchasing a petrol or diesel vehicle when next buying a car.

The survey also found that more than 60 per cent of motorists factor in the environmental impact of their cars when purchasing or renting a vehicle.

Of those surveyed, it says 26.56 per cent of respondents stated they strongly consider the environmental impact of any car they purchase or rent, while a further 35.26 per cent admitted to giving some consideration to the impact of their cars' usage on their carbon footprint.
