Residents at Garrai Glas estate in Athenry could soon be benefiting from new works to provide safer access to the Tuam Road for both drivers and pedestrians.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has received confirmation from Galway County Council that it has made an application for additional funding for the project to the Department of Transport under the Community Involvement Scheme.
The works include setting back boundary walls and installing a footpath to link existing footpaths along the Tuam Road.The works when completed would improve sight lines for residents of Garrai Glas estate at the exit onto the Tuam Road.
Minister Canney said he acknowledges the work of former Cllr Peter Feeney who allocated notice of motion money towards the cost of the project and the ongoing support of Cllr Gabe Cronnelly.
“The completed project will provide safer access for the residents and an uninterrupted continuous footpath along the Tuam Road for the benefit of pedestrians,” he said.
