Rugby stars help launch Galway Hospice Christmas campaign

It may just be the beginning of November, but Galway Hospice has launched its annual Christmas campaign with the help of Connacht Rugby players.

Players Peter Robb, Ultan Dillane, Dave Heffernan, Dominic Robertson-McCoy, Joe Maksymiw and Kyle Godwin, helped out modelling the hospice’s new socks which are on sale as part of a new range this Christmas.

The hospice needs to raise €2.3 million each year to provide specialist palliative care services to patients and families throughout Galway, and its annual Christmas campaign plays an important role in supporting its services.

The hospice’s Christmas range has expanded this year and includes its popular Christmas cards, Christmas baubles, special Galway Hospice socks, a 2020 calendar featuring photographs of Galway, a personalised teacher certificate, and a weekly draw gift voucher.

Speaking at the launch, Galway Hospice chairman Keith Finnegan said 100 per cent of the funds raised went directly to support the work of the hospice.

“Christmas is a special time for everyone and this is especially true for the families cared for by Galway Hospice,” said Galway Hospice chief executive Mary Nash.

“With an increasing demand on our services throughout Galway city and county, the funds raised each year throughout our Christmas campaign is vital. The important contribution the public play when purchasing our Christmas products cannot be underestimated. With support this Christmas, we really can make a difference to families living with life-limiting illnesses at Christmas and beyond.”

Galway Hospice’s Christmas cards are sponsored by O’Toole’s SuperValu, Tuam; Radharc Landscaping, Moycullen; Ultimate Office, Galway; Busker Brownes Bar & Kirby’s Restaurant and EJ King’s Bar & Restaurant. Galway Hospice Christmas cards are available for €7 for a box of 12 at Galway Hospice, online at www.galwayhospice.ie, and in some 150 local outlets around Galway city and county.

A special Galway Hospice 2020 calendar (€10 ) is also available this year, sponsored by Signfit Branding. The calendar features scenic photographs taken by members of the public around Galway city and county.

Other gifts include Christmas baubles (€5 ), exclusive Galway Hospice socks (€9 ), a personalised certificate for teachers (€25 ), and a weekly draw annual subscription gift voucher (€66.04 ).
