Galwegians voted most craic

It is official - the people of Galway are the happiest and most craic in Ireland.

The research commissioned by Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels saw 18 per cent of a sample of 1,000 people from across Ireland select Galwegians as the most craic and happiest in the country.

Commenting on the findings, Suzanne Cannon, head of marketing at Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotel UK & Ireland, said: “This research celebrates Ireland’s unique sights and people. Ireland is a one-of-a-kind destination, with the people at the heart of what makes it special and unlike anywhere else in the world.

"At Jurys Inn we embrace all of the country’s wonderful qualities and quirks and encourage all of our guests to stay happy no matter where their chosen destination is.”

Other polls found that the Cliffs of Moher were seen as Ireland's most iconic landmark, according to 67 per cent of respondents with the Giant's Causeway voted the second must see landmark (59 per cent ).

Looking into what makes Irish people happy, the research showed booking a trip away tops the list with 61 per cent of all votes. Spending time with friends (55 per cent ), getting a take-away (43 per cent ), and watching a feel-good movie (42 per cent ) were also among the top activities bound to put a smile on anyone’s face.
