A number of agricultural shows in County Galway will receive funding, allocated by Minister for Rural & Community Development, Michael Ring.
Among the shows which have been allocated €5,000 funding are Ballinasloe, Glenamaddy and Mountbellew shows in East Galway, in addition to Castlerea, Elphin, Roscommon and Strokestown shows in County Roscommon.
Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the allocation of funding for a number of local agricultural shows, which he pointed out will help to attract increased visitor numbers to the region.
“These shows are important events in the annual agricultural calendar and I welcome this funding which will be distributed through the Irish Shows Association.
"In recent years we have seen many local shows facing increasing challenges in terms of hosting these events from a financial point of view and this funding will help voluntary committees to meet these challenges.
“The local shows continue to attract visitors to Ireland’s heartlands and these welcome allocations are part of €600,000 which has been made available for shows nationwide.”
