Confidence increasing that path will clear for greenway, says Cannon

An East Galway TD has said that confidence is growing that the path will be cleared for the Quiet Man Greenway when the rail review is concluded.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has also said that supporters of the project will be further encouraged by Minister Brendan Griffin`s recent statement that the Government is “dedicated to growing greenways” and that a total of €23.5m has been made available for the amenities in 2020.

“Recently, Fáilte Ireland revealed data which highlighted that one in five overseas visitors to Ireland in 2018 came to Galway, putting it in third place as the country`s most popular destination of choice”.

“Any county-based initiative that takes account of this fact and which is tied in with the ready uptake elsewhere of greenway infrastructure by visitors in recent years, is therefore bound to succeed and succeed well”.

“In that regard, Im happy to confirm that now that the rail review is edging closer to completion, confidence is growing that the path will be cleared for the Quiet Man Greenway”.
