Celebrations to take place in Salthill on November 9

Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, will be marked in Galway with an event at the Salthill Hotel, on Saturday November 9 from 5pm, featuring Indian food, dancing, film, and interculturalism, and spirituality.

The event, which will be family friendly, is being organised by the Galway Indian Community, will feature reverent contemplation for Lakshmi Puja, with lamps being lit to symbolise the triumph of light over darkness. "As Galway prepares to be European Capital of Culture for 2020," a spokesperson for the GIC said, "we will share our own particular brand of locally-choreographed dances, adding a west of Ireland twist to some popular Bollywood moves."
