Indian Cultural and Sports Community to mark Diwali

Celebrations to take place in Salthill on November 2

The Indian Cultural and Sports Community will mark Diwali, the festival of lights, on Saturday November 2, from 5pm to 10pm in Leisureland, Salthill, with the evnet being attended by the Mayor of Galway, Cllr Mike Cubbard.

Diwali, also known as the ‘Festival Of Lights’ is the most widely celebrated festival in India. It symbolises the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Oil lamps and lanterns are lit outside the houses to illuminate the darkness of the night. Dancing and food are major parts of the celebrations.

The event in Salthill will include Indian music, a DJ night, a prize ceremony, and food courts. The event is ticketed/paid and includes a complimentary buffet of a diverse Indian cuisine. The food includes several vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, including starters and desserts. Dietary concerns can be discussed with the organisers before or during the event.

Also attending will be students from NUI Galway, GMIT, the Indian community members from Loughrea, Tuam, Clifden, and Ennis. Tickets are €60 (family ), €20 (adults ), €16 (students ), €12 (children ). Under fives go in free.
