Leading jazz guitarist to play Galway

Mike Nielsen to join Aengus Hackett in The Black Gate

MIKE NIELSEN, one of Europe's finest jazz guitarists, will join forces with Galway guitar great, Aengus Hackett, for a night of six string magic at The Black Gate Cultural Centre, St Francis Street.

The show, part of the JAZZGate series, is on this Friday at 9pm will have a Brazilian and bossa nova feel. Nielsen has performed with Dave Liebman, Larry Coryell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler, Dominique Di Piazza, and Paul Wertico; opened for John McLaughlin; and is the author of a jazz guitar syllabus which was implemented in 2018.

He has enjoyed much critical acclaim. The Sunday Times said: “A new age of jazz is being spawned by an exciting and innovative crop of Irish musicians...the spadework was done by pioneering musicians such as Mike Nielsen.” The Sunday Tribune called him, "one of Europe’s most distinctive and iconoclastic guitar voices, equally innovative on electric and acoustic guitars".
