RTÉ to broadcast Wexford Festival Opera to the Pálás

A chance to see a sold-out show in another country, right here in Galway

RTÉ WILL broadcast the Wexford Festival Opera's sold-out production of Antonio Vivaldi's Dorilla In Tempe to Galway's Pálás on Saturday November 2 at 8pm - the first time an Irish-produced opera will be broadcast live in cinema.

Dorilla In Tempe, first performed in Venice in 1726, was one of Vivaldi’s own favourite compositions, and includes a reworking of part of the ‘Spring’ movement from his celebrated 'The Four Seasons'.

The story centres on the shepherd Nomio, who is really the Greek god Apollo in disguise. Nomio falls in love with the King's daughter, Dorilla, who is in love with another shepherd Elmiro. The King is forced by the gods to save his kingdom by offering his daughter as a sacrifice to the sea-serpent Pitone, but she is rescued just in time by Nomio. This however, does not solve the issue, as Dorilla still wants to be with Elmiro. Will Apollo be selfish, or let true love win the day?

It is directed by Fabio Ceresa (‘Best Director’ International Opera Awards 2016 ) with costume design by Giuseppe Palella. The broadcast is a collaboration between Wexford Festival Opera, RTÉ, and Classical Arts Ireland.
