Land Without God - examining the legacy of institutional abuse

Directors of new documentary to attend screening at The Eye next week

LAND WITHOUT God, a new documentary examining the legacy of institutional abuse by the Irish Church and State, will be screened in The Eye Cinema, Wellpark.

In the film, Gerard Mannix Flynn meets with generations of his family who, for the first time, speak openly about their harrowing childhood experience of being removed from the family home and incarcerated in religious-run homes and industrial institutions. In adulthood, the survivors continued to live lives in and out of institutions in an endless and unavoidable cycle of dysfunction.

The film focuses on the impact the abuse has had on those who experienced it and, on their families and wider community. This personal and direct address asks why did this happen and how does one escape the trauma buried deep in the bones of generations?

The film will be screened on Tuesday October 29 at 7.15pm. Afterwards there will be a Q&A with the directors Gerard Mannix Flynn and Lotta Petronella. Early arrival and booking is advised. See www.eyecinema.ie or call 091 - 780078.
