Medal haul for Black Dragon fighters

Galway Black Dragon fighters won 15 medals at the recent IKF Junior National Kickboxing Championships in Galway's Ballinfoyle Community Centre

The 23 Galway fighters were among 200 youngsters from Ireland competing at the event where they claimed seven gold medals (one by walkover ), four silver medals, and four bronze.

Galway Black Dragon fighter Finn Foley from Annaghdown was involved in three fights in the boys U12 -35kg division, stopping opponents from Athlone in the first and Limerick in the second before fighting to a draw in the third against Ennis which went to an extra round. Foley then won convincingly, dropping his opponent with head kicks for a super victory.

Sofia Huish from Knocknacarra won the girls U12 over 45kg division with two hard fights - her fourth year in a row to win the championships.

Naoise Flatley from Kinvara won gold in a straight final with a Limerick opponent in the girls U12 -45kg division, while Pat Ward from Ballybane took gold in a straight final with clubmate Joey Keaney from Maam in Connemara in the boys U10 -30kg division.

At U14 -40kg division Darren Van Strien from Westside won gold in a straight final with Aragon Brasoveanu from Athlone, Finn Furey won out the -45kg division with victories over Limerick and Tralee, and Ellen Ward from Ballybane won gold by walkover in the girls U14 -40kg division.

Black Dragon Fighters Belle Foley from Annaghdown and Mia Keenan took joint bronze in the girls U8 division one, Dylan Ward from Ballybane took bronze after three hard fights in the U12 over 45kg division, and Mark McGuire and Aaliyah Clohessy took silver in the cadet boys and girls' -60kg division respectively.

U10's Chris Corcoran won silver in the -35kg division, while Mikey Ward from Ballybane took bronze in the boys U12 years -40kg division.
