John Murphy, a consultant for BBC, TG4, TV3 and RTÉ, who has worked with Bob Monkhouse, Cilla Black, Frank Skinner, and Gay Byrne, will be giving a workshop in the Galway Film Centre.
The workshops will be held on Saturday April 25 and Sunday 26 and will be aimed at those who want to write for TV in its different formats. Participants will explore the origin and mechanics of stories, industry needs, how to pitch ideas, focus their writing, and to make their stories more screen compatible.
Mr Murphy started out writing and devising TV programmes for the BBC (The Happy Bag, Love Detectives ) while also working as a stand-up comic. He also starred in Who Stole Bob Monkhouse’s Jokes? as the person who investigated and retrieved the lost jokes.
Mr Murphy has devised, consulted, and scripted more than 1,000 light entertainment shows for Bob Monkhouse, Cilla Black, Frank Skinner, Chris Tarrant, and Gay Byrne.
His course takes place at the Galway Film Centre, in Cluain Mhuire on Monivea Road, from 10am to 4.45pm and costs €235/185. Class size will be limited.
