Finding spiritual renewal in pitch and putt

One of the country’s best known Redemptorist priests is inviting people to chill out by playing a free 18 hole pitch and putt course attached to the order’s monastery in Esker.

After years of launching novenas and being outspoken on many social issues Fr Vincent Kavanagh is now manager of the pitch and putt course attached to the monastery.

“We have an 18 hole course here and all are welcome to come not only to play the game but for some spiritual renewal in these times of stress,” he says. “We have made eight acres available of our 22 acre parkland and it is a beautiful place for families and individuals to walk and relax every day of the week.”

Esker provides a youth village for retreats for young people.

Fr Kavanagh says these amenities are being made available to the public because the order felt that it should contribute to the plan to save the west.

“ People from all walks of life come to the retreat house for the seclusion the place offers, retreats vary in form and could concentrate on religion, human development and counselling.”
