Large litter bins must be placed at bus stops around the city as the bins already there are always full and overflowing, according to Fine Gael Galway City East candidate Frank Fahy.
Mr Fahy said that large scale clean-up operations have to be undertaken by the Galway City Council daily because all the bins are overflowing.
“The fact that bins are full most mornings,” he said, “shows there is need for them and that they are being used where provided.”
On a recent canvass in the Ballybrit area, Mr Fahy was informed by one local that if a person were to walk to town from the Clayton Hotel, the first bin on this route is located at Wellpark on the Monivea Road.
“This is totally unacceptable” he continued. “I am calling for the immediate provision for the large type litter bin at all bus stops around the city.”
