Ireland rugby star Ronan O’Gara comes to Galway on Sunday to cut the ribbon on the new Pure Skill sports entertainment centre at the Galway West Retail Park in Knocknacarra.
The Munster outhalf, who helped Ireland to its first Grand Slam in 60 years, had intended to be in the city on Saturday to perform the honours, but instead he has been called up to face Connacht in Thomond Park on Saturday evening.
The opening will now take place at 12.30pm on Saturday when O’Gara will be put through his paces when he tries out some of the 20 different activities offered at Pure Skill.
“I hope people won’t be too disappointed and will still be able to turn out in large numbers,” said O’Gara. “Next Saturday’s game will be an important one. I’ll be at Pure Skill on the Sunday and I’m looking forward to meeting my fans in Galway.”
The Pure Skill complex – which uses the latest technologies to simulate a range of different sports - is the first of its kind in the world, and the brainchild of entrepreneurs Adrian Reen and Patrick Flanagan.
“We’re disappointed that Ronan has to defer his visit to Sunday, April 19, but we understand that his rugby career comes first. We are delighted that he will be able to launch Pure Skill next Sunday, and that he will get a chance to see what is on offer here. It’s all about providing authentic, fun, and sociable sports-entertainment. It’s great value for money and a great resource for Galway, with huge potential to go nationwide.”
The revised date for the launch of Pure Skill is Sunday, April 19 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
