More than 340 children and their parents are putting their lives at risk every day due to what Fianna Fáil Oranmore candidate Malachy Noone said was the “failure of the Galway County Council to implement road safety measures” at Claregalway National School.
Mr Noone says the current situation at the school has forced pupils “to navigate one of the busiest and worst bottlenecks in the country without any traffic calming or safety measures”.
“This situation has been going on for years,” he said. “The reality is that we have no footpath, no traffic lights, and no traffic calming measures whatsoever outside the school. We don’t have a proper drop off and collection area for our pupils - despite the fact that up to 30,000 cars travel through the village of Claregalway every day.”
Mr Noone is calling on the Department of Education and Galway County Council to act immediately to rectify the problem.
