Horslips’ drummer for North Beach Nights

EAMON CARR, the music journalist, poet, and former Horslips drummer, will read at the North Beach Poetry Nights in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Monday at 9pm.

Eamon was a performance poet before he joined Horslips. He used to give lunchtime readings with Peter Fallon in Trinity in the early 1970s. The duo were called Tara Telephone and were heavily influenced by the Liverpool poets.

He later joined Horslips, whose fusion of heavy rock and Irish trad was both controversial and revolutionary and led to such classic albums as The Táin and The Book Of Invasions. Eamon now works as a journalist and commentator on culture, politics, arts, music, and sport.

Poets wishing to take part in the two round Slam should bring along two three-minute poems, preferably memorised. The winner goes forward to the 2009 North Beach Poetry Nights' Grand Slam in December.

Admission is €5/3.
