The GRETB Training Centre open day will take place on Wednesday September 11 from 10.30am to 3.30pm. The open day is the ideal opportunity to visit the largest training centre in the west of Ireland. Learners can avail of day, evening, and Saturday courses, and apprenticeships.
The training centre is continually developing new courses to meet the needs of clients and employers. It has strong links with local employers who offer valuable work experience to trainees on many of its courses, often leading to job offers. There is also a student support team which offers learners extra support in areas such as reading and comprehension.
The centre has fully equipped workshops for carpentry and joinery, electrical, motor mechanics, metal fabrication, and welding. It also has one of the only dedicated training cleanrooms in Europe. It offers a wide range of courses in the following areas:
IT: IT support specialist traineeship, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA ), CompTIA Network+ Java SE8 programmer 2, reception and clerical skills, CompTIA cloud essentials (Roscommon ).
Engineering: Welding arc and oxy-acetylene.
Transport: Bus driving and HGV rigid, HGV artic. and delivery driver (Clifden ).
Traineeships (includes 10 weeks work placement ): Beauty therapist traineeship (Tuam ), sports recreation and exercise (Oranmore ), pharmacy sales assistant (retail skills health and beauty ), IT support traineeship.
Other: Manual and computerised payroll and bookkeeping, cleanroom and packaging operations, ECDL, supervisory management, retail skills (Roscommon ), start your own business, door security and guarding skills, first aid responder, and many more.
Apprenticeships: Apprenticeship is a programme of education and training which combines learning in the workplace with learning in a training centre or educational college. Apprenticeship provides the opportunity for learning acquired off-the-job to be applied and further developed under supervision in the workplace. Apprenticeships can be from two to four years in duration, and range from QQI Level 6 to QQI Level 9, and the apprentice is paid for the duration of the apprenticeship. As well as the traditional trades such as plumbing and electrical, GRETB Training Centre now offers apprenticeships in areas such as auctioneering, manufacturing, finance, laboratory technician, accounting technician, and insurance practitioner.
