The official programme launch of Galway 2020 - European Capital of Culture, will take place in Eyre Square on Wednesday September 18 at 6pm. The event is family friendly, free, and open to all.
The programme will be launched by Galway 2020 chair, Arthur Lappin, and the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan. More than 100 volunteers will be on hand to assist the audience and distribute copies of the programme. There will be opportunities for people to get further information about becoming a volunteer 'Wave Maker' and how to sign up. Capacity is limited so early arrival is advised.
“Programme launches usually take place behind closed doors," said Helen Marriage, creative director of Galway 2020. "We wanted to make it a special moment the people of Galway could share. It’s incredibly exciting to be at this stage when we can start to tell everyone about what is planned for the year. And this is just the beginning, a taste of what’s to come during a year in which Galway will be Ireland’s mirror to the world. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us."
The programme will also be available to view or download at www.galway2020.ie A copy will also be delivered to every household across the city and county following the programme launch.
