Funding has been approved for a new, "very badly needed", ambulance base in Merlin Park. The funding was made available through the HSE Capital Plan 2019-2021, which has just been published.
The ambulance base will have 19 ambulances bays, shower and laundry facilities, office space and catering. The news has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Galway City East councillor, Ollie Crowe, who said the facility would "modernise daily operations" for ambulance crews and "greatly improve coordination and efficiency".
He added: "The Merlin Park facility will provide easier access for ambulance crews and will alleviate many of the operational and logistics shortcomings being experienced by this frontline service at UHG in recent years. I urge all parties to expedite construction and commissioning of the new ambulance base as soon as possible."
