My name is Emma Healy. I’m 19 years old and I am delighted to be representing Galway in the Miss Ireland Final 2019 this September. I have just finished my first year in Hairdressing and Barbering and am currently working in Dunnes Stores, Briarhill. I enjoy styling hair and makeup and I would love to start my own beauty business in the future. I also enjoy going to the gym and listening to music. I am the eldest in my family; I have one brother who is 16 and two sisters who are 3 and 5.
I was born in Galway City and have spent all my life living just outside the city. Both my mother and father are from Mayo and so are their families, so I spent a lot of my weekends as a child in Belmullet too. Galway is a special city to me; there’s always something fun and exciting happening, it’s the city of festivals and I can’t wait to see what Galway 2020 brings for the Capital of Culture.
I am currently an ambassador for Cancer Care West. I recently held a Table Quiz and raised €1400 towards the charity. I am looking forward to raising more funds towards this great cause. I love helping people and I am currently planning another fundraiser for Variety Ireland. I plan to continue raising much-needed funds and awareness for local charities and gain more experience and insight into fundraising and voluntary work in the coming months.
I love Galway because it’s the county I grew up in. There’s always something going on and a lot of festivals are held here, such as The Galway Races, The Arts Festival and The Oyster Festival. Galway is a very friendly and vibrant city and is situated along The Wild Atlantic Way so it has some beautiful scenery and beaches along the coast. There’s something for everyone in Galway and I am proud to be representing my county amongst 34 other girls from all around Ireland. There’s no place like home and there’s certainly no place like Galway.
