EUGENE IONESCO'S classic 1959 avant-garde play Rhinoceros, will be presented in a new adaptation by John Rogers, and performed by the Galway Actors Studio.
Rhinoceros will be staged in the Town Hall Theatre studio from Monday September 9 to Wednesday 11 at 8.30pm. The inhabitants of a provincial French town are all turning into rhinoceros, except for Bérenger, who has a reputation for drinking, tardiness, and a generally slovenly lifestyle. He then comes under fire for his increasing paranoia and obsession with the rhinoceros.
Ionesco's play explores conformity, culture, fascism, responsibility, logic, mass movements, mob mentality, and morality, and is often seen as a response and criticism to the sudden upsurge of Fascism and Nazism preceding World War II.
