Dance and movement courses for over fifties in Galway

Do you like to dance in a group? To challenge yourself at your own pace? To express your creative side and learn new steps and movements? If this is you, go along and join Patrica Glynn at one of her upcoming courses.

In addition to the physical benefits, dance and movement is an expressive, interactive, and social activity and can encourage a sense of increased wellbeing and confidence for all ages. Classes begin with a preparatory warm up that assists moving with ease, learning, and creating short movement sequences in pairs, group, and circle dances. Over eight weeks, participants can increase flexibility, strength, and improve postural awareness and balance, all while moving to a variety of music and rhythm in a relaxed environment.

Courses take place every Tuesday and Thursday at Galway Wellness Studio, Terryland House (beside Fruit and Veg shop, opposite Paintrite ), beginning Tuesday October 1 from 11.45am weekly or Thursday October 3 from 11am weekly, for eight weeks.

A native of Ballyloughane, Renmore, Patricia Glynn is a graduate of UL, The University of London, and holds an MA in dance studies from New York University. She is a dance artist in residence in the Galway City Council and for a number of years, her work includes movement and dance in the community for active retired groups throughout Galway's eastside, workshops for 'Arts for Health' including Parkinson's Dance and dance projects for Galway city and county libraries, SCCUL Sanctuary Clarinbridge, Ceim Eile Daycentre, Merlin Park Hospital, carers groups, COPE, parents, and school projects.

She recently presented Between Language and Limb - a dance/poetry work in progress collaboration at Galway Theatre Festival with award winning Galway poet Geraldine Mills and fellow contemporary dancers Celina Jaffe and Leighton Morrison. She also directed a community arts project 'A Tapestry of memory' at Ballybane Library with parents of deis schools association Oirthear Le Cheile supported by 2020 funding from Small Towns Big Ideas.
