Galway restaurants honoured at Food and Wine Awards

Michelin starred Aniar has been named the Best Restaurant in Connacht at the Food and Wine Awards, announced at the weekend.

Tartare Café + Wine Bar, also on Dominick Street, was commended in the Best Casual Dining in Ireland category at the event.

“The team and I are absolutely delighted with the award and recognition," restaurateur JP McMahon, owner of both Aniar and Tartare, said at the event. "While our food has evolved over the years, our dedication and resolve remains constant — we are passionate about producing a unique experience for our guests and advocating for food from the west of Ireland.”

Other Galway establishments honoured at this year's awards included Inis Meáin Suites, Inish Meáin, was highly commended in the Farm & Sea to Plate category. Gather Restaurant, Tuam, was highly commended in the Readers' Choice category.

Meanwhile Jess Murphy of Kai was commended in the Outstanding Champion category.

In the Best Restaurant Connacht category, Aniar was followed in the awards by Loam (highly commended ) and Kai (commended ).

Enda McEvoy of Loam was named Best Chef in Connacht, while Jess Murphy of Kai was highly commended.

Blake’s Corner Bar was among the winners at this year's Bar of the Year Awards, also announced at the weekend. The Eglinton Street establishment took the award for Best Bar Food in Ireland at the event.

"Needless to say we are absolutely thrilled to receive such a coveted award," said general manager Eimear Killian. "The calibre of the competition was very high so it's a pretty impressive achievement for our head chef Dave Thompkins and all the team to receive. We’d like to thank the Bar of the Year Awards for choosing us, to all our customers and friends of the bar for their kind words of congratulations, and of course our suppliers who help us produce such quality food day in and day out."
