Galway school of music, Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Eighteen months ago the school launched a public campaign to build support for State funding for a school of music for Galway. As part of that campaign the school pursued multiple strands of enquiry and support. The Lifes2Good foundation has agreed to back this initiative and provide major financial support to get things started.
"It is difficult to express our gratitude sufficiently, other than to deliver now on promises made," said a spokesperson for the school. "Over the next 12 months we will explore all options to expand the current set-up into a multi-campus solution that will spread across the city, providing access and employment for students and teachers alike. It is the single most important development in the life of the school and one that promises to create a lasting legacy for the city.
"In the meantime it is business as usual and, apart from planning a series of events to celebrate our anniversary, we are currently enrolling for the next academic year. From our two current locations, in the Presentation National School in Newcastle and Scoil Mhuire in Moycullen, we are offering lessons across a range of instruments, from the finest Irish and international teachers."
