A new pharmacy sales assistant course will be starting at the GRETB Training Centre in Mervue, Galway, in September.
This course has been running very successfully in the training centre since 2000. Over the years, the course has evolved and changed and GRETB regularly provides staff to pharmacies in both full and part time positions.
Pharmacy product knowledge is essential in a job like this. The course covers over the counter products and knowledge, patient counselling skills, and knowing when to refer to the pharmacist.
The course is completed over a period of 40 weeks. Initially, students spend time learning in the classroom with the final 10 weeks working full time in a pharmacy. They must have an excellent standard of written and spoken English and IT skills.
Pharmacy sales assistants deal professionally and confidently with customers on a large range of health, personal care, and beauty issues. They are well groomed, have outgoing personalities, enjoy dealing with people, and sometimes work unsociable hours.
Various modules are completed during the course, these include:
Over the counter pharmacy product knowledge.
Beauty and skincare.
Stock control.
Customer service.
Teamworking.
These and other subjects provide an extensive level of expertise that would enable students to forge a career in the pharmacy sector with the possibility of progression to further roles and training.
