US choir's charity concert for COPE

The Wright County Chamber Chorus play Galway as part of debut tour of Ireland

MINNESOTA'S WRIGHT County Chamber Chorus are on their debut tour of Ireland and will perform a charity concert in St Nicholas Collegiate Church this weekend to raise funds for COPE.

The 22-member choir, will perform a concert entitled ‘Music from the Heart - an uplifting programme of popular music’ this Sunday [August 11] at 7pm, and feature a mix of American spirituals, Irish and American folk, and songs by Steven Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, and Dolly Parton.

From Buffalo, Minnesota, the choir was founded in 1987. "We are delighted to sing for the people and visitors of Galway," said music director Michael Walsh. "The singers are thrilled to be performing in St Nicholas' and to be raising funds for those not so fortune as themselves."

Admission is free but donations to COPE are encouraged. COPE Galway works with the homeless, women and children experiencing domestic abuse, and older people. See www.copegalway.ie
