Niwel Tsumbu and Éamonn Cagney - an Afro-Irish fusion

A Congolese guitarist and an Irish percussionist to play next Eclectics gig

A CONGOLESE guitarist and an Irish percussionist, who together create "redemptive music" that delivers "a cataclysm of moods and moves to share", according to The Irish Times, are coming to Galway.

Niwel Tsumbu and Éamonn Cagney play the next Eclectics night at The Black Gate Cultural Centre, St Francis Street, on Wednesday August 15 at 9pm. The duo are long time collaborators, have released the album, A Long Way/Nzela Molayi in 2005. Their most recent release was the single, 'Mwana Moyi (Child of the Sun )' - inspired by Carl Sagan's classic documentary series Cosmos - which ame out last year.

Tsumbu and Cagney have been called "one of the most authentic, organic and exciting cross cultural musical encounters to emerge in the Irish music scene," by Mel Mercier, the director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. Known for their musical chemistry, fusion of different musical styles, and exciting, joyous performances, they have also toured throughout Europe, China, and Congo, and worked with Glen Hansard, Baaba Maal, Liam Ó Maonlaí, and Iarla Ó Lionáird.

Support is from Galway based songwriter and guitarist Dylan Murphy. Admission is €10. Upcoming Eclectics gigs are My Fellow Sponges and Tate Zehr (August 21 ) and Dead Horse Jive and Owlman & The Night Terrors (August 28 ). See www.facebook.com/eclecticsgalway
