Galway Pride 2019 begins on Monday

30th Pride to begin with annual community awards night

GALWAY COMMUNITY Pride is launching its 30th year this Monday [August 12] with its annual community awards night, which takes place in the Roisín Dubh at 8pm that same day.

The community awards will see Galway Pride celebrating the best and brightest examples of community spirit, voluntary and advocacy work, and contributions to the LGBT+ community. The categories are Community Group of the Year, Campaign Group of the Year, Artist of the Year, and People's Champion.

Speaking to the Galway Advertiser, the Galway Community Pride committee said: "We invite everyone to join us for our annual launch night on Monday. Not only will we be kicking off the start of our week long of events for Pride but we will also be gathering together to reward those who have given so much to Galway. Pride is rooted in activism and this is our opportunity to reward that."

Galway Community Pride is Ireland's longest running consecutive Pride. To mark its 30th anniversary, the theme will be 'history'. Events run from August 12 to 18, with the Pride March on Saturday 17. For more see galwaypride.com
